The device takes power from the USB port and does not have its own battery.
The microphone and recorder is impressive quality with a good sound pick up and recording. It works really well and can be left in a large room to easily record sounds over 20 feet [5-6 metres]. Recordings are played back by removing the memory card and using media player on windows or VLC player on MacBook.
The lead can be used to charge, transfer data, music and videos when connected to phone.
